Spanish recognition for Omagh families
OMAGH families' chairman, Michael Gallagher, travelled to Madrid yesterday (Wednesday) to pick up an international award for his efforts to give a voice to victims of terrorism.
He travelled to the Spanish capital with his wife Patsy to receive the prestigious award at the city's San Pablo's University where the Centre for Victims of Terrorism is based.
Michael was the unanimous choice of the board of trustees for the Memory, Dignity, and Justice Award.
It is also being viewed as an honour for all the families who have displayed the courage to demand justice in the 11 years since the 1998 bomb.
Michael's son, Aiden, was among those killed on that horrific day which claimed the lives of 31 people in total, including unborn twins.
While no-one has been prosecuted in a criminal court, the families won a landmark multi-million pound civil suit against those accused of carrying out the bombing.
