Terry Waite bomb anniversary appeal inspires new Guides Unit

A SPECIAL Mass at the Sacred Heart Church in Omagh this Sunday afternoon will celebrate the launch of a local Girl Guides Unit.
Nearly 80 girls have registered for the unit, which has been defunct for ten years, and will be based between St Joseph's Hall and the Station Centre.
Natasha Eccles, Unit Leader, revealed that the re-emergence of a local Guides Unit is a result of the address from Terry Waite which was read out at the families' remembrance service to mark the tenth anniversary of the Omagh bomb in August.
"The address included a most profound statement about the importance of creating not just a static memorial to Omagh's victims, but also a living, and lasting, legacy involving our young people," said Natasha.
She added, "It is now our desire, in Omagh, to tell a positive story and to show that, after ten years, many are looking to the future and to the very positive things that are happening. It is in the spirit of this statement that, after a lengthy absence, we are starting up a Guides Unit again in Omagh.
Patricia Lewsley, the Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People, is guest speaker at Sunday's Mass which will be celebrated by Bishop Lagan and also representatives from local parishes.
The newly-formed Derry Diocesan Youth Choir will lead the music at the event.
"We are hoping there will be a number of local, regional and national dignitaries present on Sunday," said Natasha. "The establishment of this Unit will be a very valuable part of our future in Omagh - the interest level, to date, is testament to people's desire to move on."
