Omagh families appeal to MLAs for public enquiry

OMAGH Support and Self Help Group delivered a powerful and compelling presentation to guests at Stormont on Tuesday night to urge the decision-makers to support the group in its campaign for a full enquiry into what happened on August 15, 1998.
Out of the 108 MLAs who were invited to the Long Gallery, only a handful turned up. Among the politicians who did attend were Sinn Fein representatives for West Tyrone Pat Doherty MP and Barry McElduff MLA.
The thought-provoking 40-minute presentation delivered by Mr Gallagher clearly laid out evidence about events leading up to and after the bomb.
It also showed graphic photographic images of the fateful day and a clip from the 2004 film, 'Omagh'.
Speaking after the event Mr Gallagher whose son Aiden was killed in the blast said, "I hope the presentation gave an indication to the decision-makers the reasons why there needs to be a full cross-border public enquiry.
"We wanted to set out the facts to educate those who may not have been aware of such information. The fog needs to be lifted over the Omagh bombing and these people have the power to facilitate that."
Godfrey Wilson lost his daughter Lorraine. He said victims have been overshadowed for far to long.
"Victims of terrorism in this country have been treated very unfairly," he said.
"Nobody has ever been convicted of the bombing it will be interesting to see the outcome of the civil case when it goes to court next week."
Carol Radford lost her 16-year-old brother Alan.
"All we want is the truth. My brother was just a boy when he was killed in such a barbaric way. We have been denied the truth for far too long. It's the least we can be given," she said.
The �14-million civil compensation case is due to take place at the high court in Belfast next week.
The 10th anniversary of the Omagh Bombing will take place in August.
