Omagh bomb verdict expected in September
A VERDICT in the Omagh bomb trial is not expected until after the summer. The trial of 37-year-old south Armagh electrician Sean Hoey ended in January with trial judge Mr Justice Weir admitting he had an extensive amount of evidence to consider before reaching his conclusions.
The Crown Court judge said he would give his verdict in the case as soon as possible. However, legal sources this week suggested that the judgment might not now be delivered until after the summer recess in September. Hoey, who is the longest serving remand prisoner in the North, having already served three and a half years in jail, denies a total of 56 charges, including 29 counts of murder as a result of the Omagh bombing.
