BOMB ACCUSED APPEARS IN COURT
Bomb accused appears in court

AMID heavy police presence yesterday, at Enniskillen Magistrate's Court, Anthony Joseph Donegan, a 34-year-old labourer from Dundalk was charged with supplying the maroon car used by the Real IRA in the 1998 Omagh bombing. He was remanded in custody to appear back at Omagh Court on the March 8.
Donegan, with an address at Afton Drive, was charged with, on a date unknown between August 11,1998 and August 16,1998, he made available to another person a maroon Vauxhall Cavalier, registration number 91 DL 2554, knowing that it might be used for acts of terrorism.
During the brief court hearing Donegan spoke only to indicate he understood the charges against him.
A detective constable told the court that he arrested, charged and cautioned Donegan at Omagh Police Station on Tuesday. The officer said he could connect Donegan to the charge before the court and added that when charged the accused had replied 'not guilty'.
Laurence Rush, whose wife Libby died in the Omagh bombing was present in the crowded public gallery of the courthouse, to see Donegan charged. Key police officers, including Norman Baxter, who is leading the investigation, were also present.
Resident Magistrate Liam McNally told Donegan this court did not have the power to grant him bail, and therefore he would be remanded in custody to appear at Omagh Magistrate's Court on the March 8.
However, the Magistrate said the accused was entitled to apply for High Court bail, and, if this application was successful then he would have to return personally to Omagh Court on that date.
