DETECTIVES HUNTING BOMBERS ISSUE APPEAL
Chief wants perpetrators caught quickly
DETECTIVES investigating the Omagh bombing say they are pleased with the response to a nationwide appeal issued on ITV's 'Most Wanted' programme last week.
But an RUC spokesperson has urged anyone with further information to come forward in an effort to find those responsible for the atrocity which claimed the lives of 29 people and two unborn babies.
Chief Constable Ronnie Flanagan said his officers were still confident of catching those who carried out the bombing.
And he revealed that detectives were close to knowing the identity of those responsible for the murders.
A total of 42 arrests have been made by police and gardai on both sides of the border.
And hundreds of surveillance videos are currently being examined by detectives in an effort to trace the movements of the maroon-coloured Vauxhall Cavalier from its theft in Carrickmacross to its arrival in Market Street.
"The people in South Armagh, the people in Carrickmacross and the people in the Omagh area can help us.
"They can provide the vital evidence that we need to take us that step further" he said.
Mr Flanagan said the investigation had so far yielded a tremendous amount of information, but he appealed for more public support in an effort to trap the bombers.
"We will bring these people to justice. I want the public to help us so that we can do it as quickly as is humanly possible.
"Only through that can the healing process for all those devastated families be assisted" he added.
A police spokesperson this week asked anyone with information on the crime to contact detectives at Omagh 01662-246177.
