BEREAVED FORM SELF-HELP GROUP

THE families of those bereaved and injured in the Omagh Bomb on August 15th have formed a self-help group.
Although the group does not intend to take over the work of the statutory bodies, it will be a means through which the families can channel their wishes and hopes to the statutory bodies, said the group chairman, Michael Gallagher, who lost his son in the blast.
Last week the group held its first meeting in the Royal Arms Hotel, and members of more than half of the bereaved families were in attendance along with many of those injured and maimed. Around fifty people attended the meeting and a committee was formed. "The aim of the group", said its chairman, "is to support and help the bereaved and injured in any way we can."
The group will bring people together to talk about the effects on their lives of the events of August 15th, and to offer advice and point people in the right direction.
Though there were no representatives of the Buncrana bereaved, a letter was later conveyed to those families and they have indicated their total support for what is happening.
Members of the group's committee will have a meeting with the administrators of the Omagh Tragedy Fund tomorrow.
Mr Gallagher said that a further meeting of the Omagh Support and Self Help Group will be announced through the press in due course.
