PRAYER SERVICES PLANNED TO REMEMBER DEAD AND INJURED
Prayer services planned to remember dead and injured
TWO prayer services, in which the dead and injured of the Omagh bomb will be remembered, will be held in town on Friday (October 30th) and in a separate outdoor ceremony on the following Sunday (November 1st).
The November observance will involve the representatives of the Drogheda Prayer Group who will react "The Way of The Cross" at 3.00p.m.
Explained a spokesperson for the group "As Simon of Cryrene helped Christ carry his cross, so we have borne, and continue to bear, each others burdens".
She extended an invitation to gather at Drumragh Car Park, Omagh on the Sunday at 3.00pm for a time of Prayer. The service will continue with a walk with a Cross, by Market Street and Campsie, the journey of so many of August 15th, to the Tyrone County Hospital grounds for Prayers of Healing and Hope.
The Cross will be transported from Drogheda to Omagh and members of the Prayer Group will make the journey on foot, encouraging people along the way to join with them.
A representative of Drogheda Prayer Group had earlier contacted one of the local priests, Fr. Kevin Mullan, to sympathise with him and the town on its terrible tragedy. He expressed the group's desire to do something.
It was decided, then, after a number of Prayer Group meetings, they could offer assistance through prayers for the people of Omagh near the scene of the tragedy.
The Cross is a symbol of the crosses so many people have to carry during life. It will be an important symbol of Sunday's sorrowful journey to the local hospital where so many of those caught up in the bomb sought refuge and help.
Omagh Churches' Forum will also be actively involved in the Sunday observance and it is hoped that as many people from the town as possible will lend their support to the afternoon.
The other service has been organised by "Maranatha in Northern Ireland " which will bring Christ's Healing in a Divided World to the Silverbirch Hotel, at Omagh's Gortin Road on the Friday (October 30th) at 8.00p.m.
Christians from all traditions will join together for a time of reconciliation, renewal and healing and will include Presbyterians, Roman Catholics, Methodists, Pentecostalists,members of the Church of Ireland and others.
During this time deep thought will be given to God's Call to His Church to be the instrument of healing in a broken world. It will be a time of sharing and fellowship and there will be teaching, prayer and meditation, praise and healing.
