OMAGH SUPPORT GROUP ISSUES APPEAL
Omagh support group issues appeal
I am writing to you as the new Project Coordinator of the Omagh Support and Self-Help Group (OSSHG).
As you may be aware, the group has been in operation for the past six years. In its capacity as a self-help group it provides befriending advocacy and support to those victims affected by the Troubles in Northern Ireland in order to help them achieve health, peace of mind, security and the foundations for personal growth.
An example of the group's activities is a recent weekend residential which was organised for 15 young people who were affected by the Omagh bomb. It was a tremendous success which helped the young people build new friendships, increase their understanding of others and increase their personal development. The creation of an on-line archive is also in the pipeline, with computer training courses provided for those wishing to aid its development.
The group has recently successfully acquired funding from the Community Relations Council for rental of permanent office premises. The new premises are located at 5 Holmview Terrace, Omagh.
Unfortunately we have not been as successful in sourcing finance for essential office equipment. The group is therefore making a direct appeal to local businesses to help us raise necessary funds. Any form of donation which they could provide would be gratefully accepted.
