Plans for low-Key sixth anniversary of Omagh bomb attack
BY VICKY TRIMBLE
OMAGH Support and Self Help Group is planning to hold a short service of remembrance on Sunday to honour the memory of those who lost their lives in the Omagh bomb exactly six years ago.
The service will be held in the Memorial Garden on Drumragh Avenue in Omagh at 3pm and all who wish to attend are welcome.
This is the first year since the bombing that there has not been an official remembrance ceremony, and the Self Help Group has planned the remembrance service, as its motto says, "To remember and to help us to move forward together.'
Sharon Watters of the Self Help Group told the Ulster Herald "The service will begin at 3pm and should last no more than an hour. It will begin with a welcome from Michael Gallagher, followed by a minute's silence."
"There will be music supplied by St Eugene's Brass Band and Lesley Matthews."
"Also contributing to the ceremony will be a lady from Spain, a friend of one of the Spanish victims. She is travelling in Ireland at the moment and contacted us to inquire if there were any remembrance plans. She will read a prayer in English and in Spanish."
There will be representatives from the clergy from every denomination, as Sharon says "We sent a letter to all members of the local clergy inviting them to take part.
Attending the ceremony will be Rev Louise Crawford from St Columbus Church of Ireland, Fr John Gilmore of Sacred Heart, Brendan McCarthy from Omagh Community Church and Padre Cameron McDonald from the Army Camp."
"There will also be ten members of Pax Christi in attendance."
The service will be followed with refreshments in the library.
