YEAR IN REVIEW AUGUST

AUGUST

August began with the sentencing of Michael McKevitt in Dublin. The leader of the Real IRA had constantly denied directing terrorism. Victor Barker described it as a great step forward in the fight for justice for the people of Omagh. Lawrence Rush called said the verdict was like a vision like a flower in the desert.

Former President of Ireland Mary Robinson paid a visit to Omagh to give a lecture entitled 'Learning to heal together lessons from Irish to the world and from the world to Omagh'. The lecture focussed on the good which has emerged from the atrocity which is the Omagh bomb.
