RELATIVES TRIUMPH OVER MCKEVITT COURT TRANSCRIPTS

Relatives triumph over McKevitt court transcripts

RELATIVES of Omagh bomb victims have scored a triumph recently in the face of adversity.
After being told they could not have the transcripts from jailed Real IRA boss Michael McKevitt's trial, the notes will now be handed over.
Irish Justice Minister, Michael McDowell made the dramatic U-turn last week after a meeting with lawyers representing families of those killed in the 1998 atrocity.
Michael Gallagher welcomed the minister's decision to give the Omagh Support and Self Help Group - of which he is a member - the McKevitt trail transcripts.
STRENGTHEN
The group, which has launched a civil action against five Omagh bomb suspects, believes the transcripts will help strengthen their case. It is understood that the meeting between the group's lawyers and the Minister last week went very well.
The lawyers are engaging with the Justice Department to work out what mechanisms are needed, in order to hand over the transcripts.
