Chief constable should resign for remarks
The Chief Constable, Hugh Orde on the BBC Newsline says that of the hundreds of people who have been murdered in the conflict here, for more than half of those victims, a conviction is highly unlikely, and proceeds to lightly suggest that perhaps we could have something in the way of the truth and reconciliation process as in South Africa.
This staggering 'confession of a Chief Constable' to admit to that we can allow hundreds of deaths to be swept under the carpet, that he and his constabulary wash their hands of it and close the cases and bury it under bureaucracy.
Similar remarks were made by Commissioner Byrne of the An Garda Siochana in 1998 just after the Omagh outrage when he admitted that it was unlikely anyone would be convicted.
I suggest that the honourable gentlemen, particularly Mr Orde resigns and stop taking our money - yes we the public pay him, and all those 'securicrats' that agree with him.
What is the truth and reconciliation? How does it work? We cannot ask the Assembly politicians who sent a deputation our to find out. They left on different flights, would not share the same accommodation, transportation and would not sit in the meetings together as far as I know have not issued any statement on their findings. Perhaps it may not have been so successful after all.
What I require is not reconciliation with the murderers of my wife and mother of my children, who was desecrated in the Omagh outrage, it is the truth I require and amends made through receiving justice.
I feel for all of those people who have lost loved ones, I know what grief is. On whose authority can Mr Orde relieve himself of the burden of tracking down these killers.
The police motto is 'Protect and Serve' and if you Sir cannot solve this problem and prefer we bow to killers and their agents, then I suggest you forego your salary, take off the uniform and leave by the nearest exit.
