HARROWING DETAILS ENTRENCHED IN MEDIC'S MEMORY

Harrowing details entrenched in medic's history

THE harrowing details of an army doctor who pronounced life extinct on a number of victims, later, recalled to the Inquest how a medic had collapsed on seeing the body of a child found with her hands crossed, under her heavily pregnant mother.
"This was entrenched in my memory," said the Captain.
The inquest heard that his colleague so overwhelmed that he collapsed on turning over the body of Avril Monaghan who was 34 weeks pregnant with twin girls to find the body of her 18-months old daughter, Maura, underneath.
Captain Potter said he was certain about the location and details of the bodies. The child was lying with her hands crossed on her chest, he said.
Barry Fox, solicitor for the Monaghan families, explained it was important for the families to know where their loved ones where when they died.
"This information is very important because it reveals the child died with her mother," he said.
He said he was grateful to Captain Porter for his clarification on this matter.
