HUGE PRESS INTREST IN OMAGH INQUEST
Huge press interest in Omagh
PRESS interest surrounding the Omagh inquests has been intense with up to 100 seating passes allocated to a variety of local and international news agency representatives.
Among those obtaining accreditation passes to the Leisure Centre's Minor Hall are all the major television and radio broadcasters, together with a considerable contingent of journalists from Spain.
Most of the daily and Sunday papers are represented, and with local and freelance journalists, these make up the bulk of the press delegation.
TV stations covering the Inquest include crews from the BBC, ITN, UTV, RTE, TG4, GMTV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 News and Sky News, while a number of national and regional radio stations have also been granted access to the proceedings.
Also present will be reporters from Spanish national radio and TV stations and most of the major Spanish national newspapers including ABC, El Correo, El Mundo, El Pais and El Periodico de Catalunya. A representative from Radio France / Radio Canada is also covering developments.
As cameras are not permitted to record the ongoing hearing, four of the UK television networks have sent along court artists to record events as they unfold.
In order to facilitate the press gathering, a special 45-seater media annex, equipped with a bank of screens and telephones links, has been made available adjacent to the complex.
Cameras have been banned from the Inquest itself, and visual or aural recording from the annex has also been ruled out throughout the hearing.
