Lite FM presenter Mike Moloney was on hand at a press reception in the popular Dublin venue Whelan's to present singer and song-writer Juliet Turner with a Gold Disc for sales of her album 'Burn the Black Suit'. The singer has also released her new single 'Dr Fell', a track from the best selling album.
Juliet hails from Tummery near Omagh and moved to Dublin to study English and history at Trinity College. After graduating in 1997 she remained in the city to continue her career as a musician and issued her debut album, 'Let's Hear It for Pizza,' for the independent Scottish label Sticky Music in 1996 to critical acclaim. The album was to establish the twenty-five year old's reputation as an entertaining and emotive live performer.
She has supported names such as Tracy Chapman, Steve Earl, Art Garfunkel, Kathy Mattea, David Essex, Altan, U2 and her old friend Brian Kennedy not to mention headlining with her own band. Juliet has appeared at festivals from the Greenbelt Arts Festival to Glastonbury and was featured as a guest artist on television shows such as 'Kenny Live' and 'Saturday Live'with Brian Kennedy.
Her rendition of the song 'Broken Thing' at the Omagh memorial service shortly after the tragic explosion in August of 1998 brought world-wide recognition when it was broadcast on television. She recorded the song for inclusion on the 'Across the Bridge of Hope' album which made the international charts with names such as The Corrs, U2, Sinead O'Connor, Daniel O'Donnell raising funds for those affected by the bombing.
In May Juliet released her second album, 'Burn the Black Suit', including eleven superb tracks including 'Belfast Central', 'Call Me Green', 'Sorry to Say' and her duet with Brian Kennedy, 'I Hope That I Don't Fall in Love With You'. The album became a firm favourite with dee-jays and the record buyers alike and has made the Irish hit parade. Juliet has also enjoyed a highly successful nationwide tour and was thrilled to be presented with her Gold Disc, a great achievement for the aspiring newcomer.
