Tony Blair sends a message of support
PRIME Minister Tony Blair sent his own personal message of hope for the Millennium to the people of Omagh.
In a message conveyed by Northern Ireland Secretary, Mo Mowlam, Mr Blair said he was sorry he could not attend the launch ceremony. However, he felt the signs of hope and determination emanating from the town were the best possible indicators for future generations.
His statement read: "I am very sorry I cannot be with you tonight. I can think of no more fitting way to launch the UK Millennium festival celebrations than for your powerful message of hope and determination to issue from Omagh and Northern Ireland to the rest of the United Kingdom and further afield.
"Your commitment to peace is the best possible legacy you can give to both present and future generations. My thoughts and prayers are with you."
