Unique cyber auction to bolster Omagh Fund
OMAGH took top prize in the technology stakes this week when the Council launched the first ever online celebrity auction to raise money for the Omagh Fund.
Items ranging from Eddie Irvine's crash helmet to a limited edition disc from Boyzone, were expected to attract bidders from a world-wide forum when the celebrity auction was launched yesterday (Wednesday).
Following the tragedy last year, a host of stars from screen and sport and the world of entertainment donated items to be included in this unique auction, and already there has been widespread interest in the cyber event which will run for three weeks.
Set up by Rosenet Ltd and Rosebank Internet Services, the Website www.auction.irl.net has been open since August 12th to allow users to register their interests.
Fund raising officially ceased on the 14th of August although a number of events proposed prior to the closure date have still to take place, the auction is by far the most unusual.
New items are being added to an already extensive range of rare and collectable memorabilia donated by individuals like Eddie, Jordan, Darren Clarke and Micheal Schumacher, football clubs such as Celtic and Rangers, not to mention a great many other famous figures from the entertainment and sporting worlds. So far .the Council has received full team kits from a number of major football teams including Manchester United and Leeds; additionally, signed premiership strips from Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers, the Northern Ireland team, England, Middlesbrough, Leicester, Southampton, Spurs, and Everton. The collection also contains signed rugby jerseys from the NI and Republic teams, not to mention a jacket from Amanda Burton and one of Ardal O'Hanlon's holy jumpers.
