POETRY BOOK IN MEMORY OF BOMB VICTIMS
Poetry book in memory of bomb victims
SCHOOL CHUMS of two young victims of the Omagh bombing have just published a book of poetry in their honour.
All 150 pupils at Buncrana's Scoil losagain which was attended by Sean McLaughlin (12) and Oran Doherty (8) contributed to the book which went on sale throughout Ireland this week.
The two young victims had travelled to Omagh for a day out along with fellow Buncrana student, James Barker (12) who also lost his life.
Spanish student Fernando Blasco Baselga (12) and youth leader Rocio Abad Ramos, who had accompanied the group, also died in the atrocity.
Entitled 'I am', the 192-page book features a collection of poetry dedicated to the memory of those who left the Donegal town, never to return.
In an introduction to the book, school headmistress Sinead McLaughlin recalls the suffering which enveloped the school following last August's attack.
"Parents, teachers and children are struggling to come to terms with the death of a son, a brother, a friend, a cousin, a pupil, a classmate, a neighbour.
"The loss of innocent life in such a cruel, random manner is sometimes difficult to accept and almost impossible to comprehend.
"And yet as we try to deal with our feelings of disbelief, anger, pain and frustration, we know we have embarked on a journey, a long, frightening and sometimes lonely journey, of grief, which we hope in time will help us to cope with our loss and eventually lead us to recovery" she added.
The schoolchildren were assisted by the creative writing team of mother and daughter, Kate and Joan Newman, from Kilcar in South Donegal.
Proceeds from the sale of the book will be used to purchase books and other equipment for the school.
