MARKET STREET PLANS NEARING COMPLETION
Market Street plans nearing completion

OMAGH District Council stated this week that plans for the redevelopment of Market Street are at an advanced stage.
Outlining specific details of the comprehensive development, the local authority said that seven property owners were involved in the reconstruction of the bomb site (six on the river side and one on the southern side).
In all twelve businesses are signed up for the scheme and the designs for the properties are being drawn up by the local architects, Messrs B Gallagher, P Dolan and R Collins.
In a statement issued yesterday (Wed), the council stated: "There is a shared vision for the creation of a new image for the main entrance to the town. The principle of the setback of properties has been agreed and also the need for reconstruction to the highest of architectural standards.
"The river side development is to incorporate a community house in conjunction with commercial retail space. This partnership approach between the community sector, business sector and the Council has been seen as an innovative project at the entrance to the town."
The community house is to incorporate a central building which will facilitate ten local community groups which are currently involved at various areas around the town. This innovative project will have commercial rental space located on the ground and first floors, and the community house based on the second floor.
The project will also incorporate the first phase of the river side development, which is viewed by the council as an important part of the long term strategy for addressing the poor appearance of the properties backing onto the river.
A spokesman added: "The property owners are giving the scheme their final consideration and have been supportive of the entire comprehensive document from the earliest stages".
The development is being supported by the Lottery Fund's Townscape Heritage Initiative and also by the Peace and Reconciliation Fund and further negotiations on funding for the community house are at an advanced stage.
