Omagh Town Club flooded with requests
20,000 applications in one week
DUE to the over-whelming response to the announcement of their high profile friendly fixtures with Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool later in the year, Omagh Town have decided to suspend indefinitely written applications for tickets for all three matches from today (Thursday).
The decision was taken following a board meeting on Tuesday, but the club wish to reassure supporters that this is only a temporary measure, to enable them to process the 20,000 plus applications which have already been sent in the last seven days.
The Omagh district has really been hit by ticket fever in the last week as fans try to obtain tickets for the visits of Chelsea (July 28), Man Utd (Aug 3) and Liverpool (Sept 14).
Omagh Town were also due to arrange a special 'pay session' for this evening (Thursday) at its social club on Sedan Avenue, but that has also been postponed until a future date.
Secretary Pat McGlinchey explained: "Applications for tickets are being scrutinised so that we may allocate them in accordance with the guidelines we set, those being priority to the local area, and all applications are dated and time-stamped upon receipt."
"Such has been the volume of application for the Man Utd game that in order for us to give every letter and request its due consideration we have had to take these measures. We will keep the public updated on the latest situation through the local press."
The club again wish to reiterate that under no circumstances will postal orders, cheque or cash for payment be accepted at this time.
Town officials this week also met with Health and Safety officials to determine the actual capacity that St. Julian's Road could accommodate for three games.
A certain allocation of tickets have already been earmarked for the town of Buncrana, the local trauma centre, local victims, members of the emergency services, local affiliated junior clubs and children involved in the Omagh Town soccer school.
Specific application forms, outlining the various methods of payment, were distributed to Omagh Town club members as well as participants in its 'In the Community' scheme, and certain confusion arose when it emerged that a number of these forms were circulating in the Omagh area.
Omagh Town said that all such forms would be thoroughly processed to establish the source, and if the applicant was found to be neither a club member or directly linked with the soccer school, then their application would be rejected.
