AWARDS FOR COURAGE

Awards for courage

Last week bomb victim, Donna Marie McGillion, and Michael McNally, a bus driver who conveyed many of the injured and dying to hospital following the bomb, received awards for outstanding bravery. The justice of giving two such worthy people the awards is self-evident. Donna Marie, received horrific injuries and yet endured the pain and distress of her wounds with tremendous fortitude, so much so that she has become a symbol of courage and forbearance for people throughout the world. The award for courage recognises her strength not only in dealing with her injuries at the time but in the future, and strength she has inspired others.
Michael McNally is simply a hero, he will not of course, see himself in such a role, as he is a modest recipient of the award, but he, and so many like him who rushed to the aid of the victims on August 15th were nothing less than heroic. Without such people the scale of the tragedy could have been much worse. This community will forever be in the debt of Michael and the other bus drivers, taxi drivers and pedestrians who helped on that terrible day.
