Children in crossfire span decades of tragedy
OF the many thousands of photographs taken during the Vietnam War, one moved millions all over the world to tears.
The photograph is credited with turning the tide of American public opinion against the War.
The picture was of Kim Phuc, a nine year old girl running towards the camera screaming in agony from the Napalm bomb which had severely burned her flesh.
That was nearly three decades ago. Kim Phuc is now married with a family.
Last week she visited Omagh to meet with another bomb victim, Claire Gallagher, who lost her eyesight as a result of the Omagh bomb.
The meeting between Claire and Kim was organised by Children in Crossfire's director, Richard Moore. Both Richard and Kim head up organisations which seek to help children who are victims of war and violence.
Commenting on Kim's visit, Richard Moore said, Kim Phuc is visiting NI as a guest of Children In Crossfire and she visited Omagh at the request of Claire Gallagher.
"Her meeting with Claire is symbolic for a number of reasons, both have suffered as children from conflict in their respective countries and both have made enormous strides to overcome their injuries.
"They are amazing ambassadors for peace in the world and for Children In Crossfire.
"Kim Phuc's visit offers hope to the people of Omagh and NI that they can overcome injustice and that the children can grow up in peace" concluded Mr Moore.
