AWARD FOR NURSES WHO TENDED BOMB VICTIMS
Award for nurses who tended bomb victims
A SPECIAL AWARD has been dedicated to every nurse who cared for the injured, dying and bereaved following the Omagh bomb.
It was accomplished during a ceremony last night at the annual NI Nurse of the Year Awards in Culloden Hotel.
The award was presented to Sr Margaret Kearney, Sister in the Accident & Emergency Department at the Tyrone County Hospital, who accepted it on behalf of all nurses who made a contribution.
The award a specially commissioned piece of Tyrone Crystal will be displayed at the Tyrone County Hospital.
Royal College of Nursing Secretary, Frances Donaghy said "The Omagh atrocity was such a devastating event, that we felt it was important that the skills, leadership and courage shown by nurses that day and in the days that followed should be recognised.
"Nurses were devastated by what they witnessed none of us will ever forget the horror of it all" she said
She added the award was also dedicated to every nurse who made a contribution in whatever circumstances over the last 30 years of conflict.
