LIVERPOOL GROUP VISITS OMAGH
Liverpool group visits Omagh
FROM last Thursday until Monday of this week a group of parents and their children from Liverpool who hosted young people from the Omagh area affected by last August's atrocity, visited the town, staying with host families here and at the Independent Youth Hostel in Glenhordial.
The reunion of friends and families was a very emotional experience for all.
A busy schedule of activities was organised by the co-ordinating youth clubs Hospital Road Youth Club and Omagh Boys and Girls Club.
This included memorable visits on Friday to the Ulster American Folk Park and the History Park at Cullion with a very successful cultural awareness evening of music and dance at Dun Uladh to conclude a fulfilling day.
On Saturday the young people from Liverpool and Omagh spent a day in Co. Fermanagh at Gortatole, the Western Education and Library Board's excellent outdoor education facility.
A visit to the local Studios 1 and 2 Cinema in Omagh was the perfect end to an exhausting day.
The magnificent facilities of Omagh Leisure Centre saved the day on a damp dismal Sunday when the young people went swimming and played indoor football. Then later in the evening host families organised a farewell barbecue and disco for the Liverpool guests at Omagh Rugby Club.
On departure early Monday morning, Mrs. Libby Lambert, the Liverpool co-ordinator, paid tribute to the wonderful hospitality of the people of Omagh whom the adults met and to the host families who welcomed these city kids with such warmth into their homes.
