Council leaders visit Spain
"THE MESSAGE that I as Chairman of Omagh District Council will be bringing to the people of Spain is one of ongoing sympathy and solidarity" Councillor Scan Clarke said in a statement this week prior to the departure of himself and Vice-chairman, Allan Rainey to Spain.
"This is a message straight from the hearts of all the citizens of the Omagh district who have had a shared experience of this terrible tragedy alongside the people of Madrid.
'I would like to see the road to recovery including the further development of the already strong ties between Ireland and Spain. Omagh and Buncrana will be articulating the very same message in this respect. Myself and Allan Rainey will be communicating the very strong feeling of compassion and friendship by our very presence.
"On a personal note, I sincerely hope that the Spanish Government and the Basque people can see progress, real and meaningful
progress in the evolving peace process there just as we search for progress here.
"Above all, we want to remember the people of Ireland and Spain who were either killed or injured in the August bomb and to tell their families that we will never forget them, that we will always care."
