NURSE SEEKS NEWS OF OMAGH FRIEND
Nurse seeks news of Omagh Friend
A heart-rending photograph, which appeared in a West Indies newspaper days after the Omagh bombing, has horrified a nurse from Trinidad who formed connections with the town over 20 years ago.
The picture taken in the Sacred Heart Church shows a mother comforting a young child as they pray for those killed and Injured in of the blast.
The image conveyed the full anguish and suffering felt in the aftermath of the atrocity.
Now, psychiatric nurse, Rayhana Sookhai who lives in the Caribbean island believes the tearful woman may be a friend from the Tyrone town she studied with in London in the 1970s.
The ordeal has prompted Rayhana to write to the 'Herald' in an effort to trace the friend she lost contact with all those years ago.
Expressing her condolences to those who have suffered in the blast, she has appealed for her friend to get in touch.
In her letter, Rayhana says the person in the photograph closely resembles her friend, Aine McAreavey, with whom she trained in Friern Hospital in Southgate, London in 1976.
On finishing their courses, both graduates returned to their respective homelands.
"We were best friends and although we wrote each other for a short while, we lost touch as we both got involved in raising our families."
"I would so love to write to her and console her in her time of need" she added.
