Danny Garcia brings peace message to Omagh

IN days since the bombing of Omagh, there have been a great many visitors to the town bring well wishes and condolences from all parts of the world. On Friday last, one of the most extraordinary, visitors, an ex-US marine called Danny Garcia, arrived on foot.
Danny, who presented the Omagh District Council with a valuable cultured pearl cross, stopped off in the town as part of a walk for peace. However, this walk is rather different from others in that it will take in the whole world.
On his stop off in Omagh to pray for the victims of the Omagh bomb and to meet the people, he met representatives of the seven post-primary schools in the town, along with their teachers, and gave them his message of peace.
Staying in Omagh last weekend, Mr Garcia visited the site of the blast to lay flowers and say a prayer. An extraordinary man, in his own right, Danny who served in Vietnam and later became a police officer in San Diego found the fact of violence in Ireland disconcerting especially as during his walk from Dublin to Omagh, he said he could feel peace all around him.
Additionally, he said of the people, that he could feel that in their hearts, they wanted peace.
At the time of the Oklahoma bomb, he travelled there to meet with the people sadly, similar circumstances brought him to Omagh.
Such is the sincerity and warmth of Mr Garcia, that few who meet him will fail to be touched by his humanity and understanding. South East Asian businessman Lu Pearl was so impressed, and has such confidence in Danny's ability to bring about peace, that he presented him with two valuable crosses, each made of 8,000 pearls to give to whomsoever he marked for his approval; Pope John Paul II was presented with the first, Omagh District Council with the second.
The Chairman of Omagh District Council, Sean Clarke welcomed Mr Garcia and expressed gratitude to him for his message of support and the
presentation. Additionally, the Chairman, affirmed that the messages of solidarity from throughout the world had helped the local people psychologically and emotionally through a very difficult time.
Having left Omagh early on Monday, Danny arrived in Belfast on Tuesday where he was received by the Lord Mayor.
