"Shirley Valentine" to be staged in aid of Omagh Memorial Fund

Beezneez Theatre Company is to stage "Shirley Valentine", one of Willy Russell's most poplar plays in the Patrician Hall, Carrickmore and the
proceeds of this special event is going to the Omagh Fund.
This company was founded in 1997 in Carrick-On-Shannon, Co. Leitrim with the aim of producing high quality popular theatre on a touring basis to venues in the North West and Midlands.
The Hawks Well Theatre, Sligo was the last venue on its tour of "Shirley Valentine" at the end of August and presently the company is rehearsing for its next production.
The artistic director, John McDwyer wrote "Lovely Leitrim" which was performed by Cornmill Theatre Group, Carrigallen, Co. Leitrim in the 1996 Mid-Ulster Drama Festival.
In the aftermath of the Omagh atrocity the company made contact with the committee of the Mid-Ulster Drama Festival and expressed its desire to travel to Carrickmore to present the play, with all the proceeds going to the Omagh Memorial Fund. Such a gesture is what has become so common in the days following the 15th August 1998.
The play tells the story of a bored middle aged housewife who talks to the wall as she prepares her husband's evening meal. We learn of her background, her dreams and her disappointments in hilarious sequences. Offered a two week holiday in Greece, Shirley makes a decision which changes her own life and the lives of her family.
Saturday 26th September is the date penciled in for the play and an outstanding night of theatre is guaranteed. The committees look forward to much support for this unique cause.
