EIGHT BUILDINGS FOR DEMOLITION

Eight buildings for demolition

EIGHT buildings will have to be demolished in the area surrounding the Omagh bomb site, it emerged this week.
Head of Development at Omagh District Council, Vincent Brogan, said a safety assessment was carried out and it emerged that buildings on both sides of the street would have to be demolished.
Plans have not yet been finalised for what will replace the buildings, but it is expected that a memorial, of some sort, will be erected.
Mr Brogan said what was needed was a balance between the sensitivity of the situation and the need to help the area reach a better future.
Substantial areas of the lower Market Street were damaged in the August 15th bomb.
