Organisers should examine conscience
Dear Sir
I am writing to put on record my feelings of disquiet with regard to the visit of Bill Clinton and Tony Blair.
My father and I went to the Leisure Centre assuming that the occasion would be sensitively handled. My brother and my mother correctly decided not to attend. Instead we were confronted with events that were utterly tasteless. The politicians were much as expected with inane
platitudes. What was shocking was the inept planning behind the occasion and the behaviour of some of the people invited to the hall. What should have been an event to honour those that were lost and those that were injured and maimed instead became an opportunity to get photos
and video recordings. How cameras and video cameras were allowed escapes me.
The people who saw this as an opportunity to get autographs should be ashamed of themselves.
Judging by their behaviour I doubt this. The herd like rush to meet Blair and Clinton involved knocking people to one side, positioning themselves or their children for photos in general disgracing themselves.
Whoever was responsible for organising this fiasco should examine their conscience and their motivation.
If my father and I had known the circumstances behind this "event" we certainly would not have attended. It did little to make us feel better
with ourselves. Instead we were kept waiting for three hours to witness events that were appalling.
