PETALS OF HOPE EXHIBITION ON DISPLAY AT STRULE ARTS CENTRE
Petals of Hope' exhibition on display at Stride Arts Centre until August 22
THE 'Petals of Hope: Rays of Light' exhibition is a tribute to the victims of the Omagh bomb which will be hosted in the Gallery at the Strule Arts Centre from now until August 22. The exhibition features high-quality copies of the art pieces which were created from the many floral tributes which were left in Omagh after August 15, 1998.
The original art pieces were created in a series of workshops by school children, individuals and community groups in the months following the atrocity.
Under the guidance and direction of artist Carole Kane, handmade paper was created from a pulp of tissue, water and flower petals and coloured using paints and dyes. The paper was embellished with folding, sticking and stitching and whole flowers and leaves were also incorporated to create pictures.
Three large public art pieces were created for Omagh, Madrid and Buncrana, and smaller individual pieces were donated to each of the bereaved families. The Omagh piece hangs in the foyer of Strule Arts Centre.
In addition to the artworks, a selection of books of condolence and messages of sympathy will be on display in the exhibition. These have been selected from the wealth of archived material and are a reminder of the outpouring of support and solidarity for the people of Omagh in the aftermath of the bomb.
