FORMER MLA RENEWS SYMPATHY FOR THOSE DEVASTATED BY TROUBLES
Former MLA renews sympathy for those devastated by troubles
IN remember the victims of the Omagh bomb, long-standing former Omagh DUP councillor and West Tyrone MLA Oliver Gibson commented that out of all the mayhem of violence there is a legacy emerging that must and should be recognised.
Speaking in the lead up to the tenth anniversary, Oliver, whose niece Esther Gibson died in the bomb, said, "Today we especially remember the atrocity of the Omagh bomb and also let us remind ourselves that here in West Tyrone before that fateful day on August 15 1998 we already had 97 murders, 249 murder attempts and over 1000 other nerve racking incidents. Omagh town had 17 serious bomb blasts.
"Every family that I represented has a date etched in their family history. We today should all be glad that the cherished Christian values and precepts still prevail and that we move steadily to secure the democratic rights and freedoms that flow from successfully resisting Satan's agents."
