Pax Christi group offers support to Omagh people
PAX CHRISTI - the peace and justice group is coming to Omagh this weekend to show solidarity with the injured and the bereaved from the Omagh bomb.
Pax Christi Ireland has been coming to Omagh since the bomb and members are looking forward to returning for a two-day reflection.
A spokesperson said "This year we come on Saturday and Sunday to show our solidarity to the injured and bereaved and to remember those who were killed. It is our little effort and gesture of love towards our neighbours.
On Saturday at 12 pm the group will be at the Garden of Remembrance for a prayer service.
For the remainder of the weekend, the Ulster American Folk Park is the venue for what promises to be a very interesting conference entitled 'A Journey towards Understanding through Listening and Dialogue'.
Michael Gallagher is the first of a number of speakers, which also includes Omagh minister, Rev Ian Mairs.
Pax Christi international was born out of the ashes of World War II. It is an international voice for peace and justice in all continents today.
It has consultative status with the United Nations, the Council of Europe, UNESCO and UNICEF. It is recipient of the 1987 Peace Education prize and of the 1987 UN Peace Messenger award.
It deals with the issues of security, disarmament, demilitarisation, arms trade, human rights, economic justice and development, alternatives to violence, integrity of creation. It is actively engaged in peace education and reconciliation.
