So much young potential wiped out in a bloody instant
Oran Michael Doherty, from Buncrana, was eight years old when he was murdered. He'd barely begun to live. If he'd been alive today he would be preparing to return to school, an exciting prospect as he would have been starting secondary school with all the challenges and new horizons that the new beginning brings. His family, like so many others, could not understand why anyone would want to murder their innocent child.
Jolene Marlow, from Eskra, was 17 when she was caught in the blast. Intelligent, energetic and beautiful, Jolene had been expecting her 'A' level results. She exemplified everything that is so good in youth; she opposed racism, was a member of Amnesty International, and she encouraged and inspired those around her. Had she not been murdered she may have been completing a university course in physiotherapy this year.
Alan Radford, from Omagh, would have been 20 now.
On the day of the bomb he had been shopping in the town.
From a family of eight, Alan's older brother discovered his body in the morgue when he saw his hair above the sheet that covered his body. An unspeakable grief gripped the family when, after a long wait, they discovered he'd been murdered.
Breda Devine from Dunamanagh was 21 months old the day that she died at the hands of the Real IRA.
Her mother was also very seriously injured in the blast.
With just over two weeks until schools return, Breda would have been preparing to go into Primary 2 if she had not been slain on this day four years ago.
Samantha McFarland was 17 when she was murdered. Both she and her friend Lorraine Wilson had been working in the Oxfam shop as volunteers when they were evacuated to their deaths. They were among the most caring of young people, driven by a need to do something worthwhile in a world filled with so much suffering. They were robbed of their young lives by the madness of the Real IRA.
