Victim Support opens office in Omagh
VICTIM Support Northern Ireland has opened new offices at Campsie, Omagh which will leave it more centrally placed to cover the large geographical area of the branch (Enniskillen, Omagh, Strabane).
Following a review of the compensation process, a new Tariff Scheme was introduced on May 1.
This new scheme will be fairer, more straightforward, quicker, and transparent in that it will give the applicant more direct involvement and control.
It offers the advantage of quicker settlements and will no longer involve appeals to the courts which can be extremely stressful for many claimants.
Victim Support will provide a confidential service free of charge to anyone making a claim. Advice Worker, Maura Baker is based at the Omagh Office, 22 Campsie Road, and is available to offer free and confidential help.
Victim Support will also be able to assist individuals with filling forms and with emotional support during appeals.
Examples of "violent crime" are assaults such as Grievous Bodily Harm, Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm, Intimidation, Arson, Robbery, Aggravated Burglary, Sexual Offences, Manslaughter and Murder.
Branch Manager Marilyn Giboney says, "The new role that Victim Support provides, complements our existing service and some control back to the people who have suffered as a result of violent crime.
"We are especially conscious of the anniversary of the Omagh Bomb. Volunteers and staff are available if you need someone to listen and share your feelings with."
