SENIOR OFFICER INVESTIGATING OMAGH BLAST TO MEET RELATIVES

Senior officer investigating Omagh blast to meet relatives

The Superintendent due to take over from Eric Anderson in leading the hunt for the Omagh bombers is expected to meet with the families of people killed and maimed in the blast in August 1998. Supt Norman Baxter and other senior officers plan to meet the families next Tuesday.
The police came in for severe criticism after a report by the Ombudsman found that Special Branch failed to pass on vital information which could possibly have saved lives.
Following the Ombudsman's report last year the newly established Policing Board hurriedly took steps to try and instil confidence in the investigation Inspector Baxter, who will be based in Enniskillen will seek to assure the victims that all that can be done will be done.
