No lasting peace until there is justice for all
I have read with some disgust the article of Adrian Mullan published recently in the Ulster Herald.
It is interesting for me as the father of one of the children murdered by the Real IRA on August 15,1998, that my meeting with Gerry Adams and Martin McGuiness to discuss bringing those responsible before the Courts received far less prominence than this speculative piece of journalism. Does that say something?
As far as the involvement of Sean O'Callaghan in the Omagh Victims Legal Trust is concerned, he does help in a peripheral way with publicity but to suggest that he is "manipulating the Omagh Bombing Relatives Campaign" is a complete nonsense.
The only people running that campaign are the relatives of some of the deceased, and no one else. The relatives only agenda is justice. Does that answer Mr Mullan's question?
It is Easter time. As our Lord once said, "There will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents that over 99 righteous people who do not need repentance." Sean O'Callaghan deeply regrets his terrorist past. If other terrorists were to come clean like him, Ireland would be a better place.
As I put it to the Minister of Education it should not be Number 10 discussing the question of an amnesty for on-the-runs, it should be the relatives of those they have killed.
There can be no lasting peace until there is justice for all the victims of terrorism on both sides of the so-called "divide" who continue to suffer in silence. Not just Bloody Sunday, or Dublin and Monaghan (so-called state terrorism) but Eniskillen, the Mulberry Bush in Birmingham, the Droppin Well, to name but a few. In my case, sadly, it is Omagh.
