Agent who blew the whistle could be in danger
The M15 agent, known as 'Kevin Fulton' who warned police about dissident republican activities before and after the Omagh bomb, has been warned by the PSNI that his identity may be known and that he should take steps to improve his personal security.
Though his information was thought, the Ombudsman to been insufficient in terms of preventing the Omagh bombing, Fulton did pass information to the police about suspect, a person identified in Ms O'Loan's report as 'A', who should have been treated as the 'firm' suspect.
Following the publication of the Ombudsman's report in December, government sources worked hard to discredit Fulton as a reliable informant, Chief Constable Ronnie Flanagan branding him as a 'Walter Mitty' type character.
It is believed that Fulton is taking the threat seriously. Additionally, sources purporting to be close to Fulton are suggesting that the police are still intent on discrediting the 'mole' following the alleged discharge of a shotgun at a gun club.
It is also believed the PSNI are intending to block his application for a personal protection firearm.
