SDLP SHOULD WAKE UP

SDLP should 'wake up'

Given the litany of incidents whereby documents and intelligence files have mysteriously and conveniently disappeared out of filing cabinets from RUC and military installations down through the years, often ending up in the hands of loyalist paramilitaries, I like most Nationalists, have developed a healthy suspicion about the workings and political agenda of the force.
I was therefore somewhat taken aback at SDLP MLA Joe Byrne's unquestioning response to the news that a log-book containing intelligence assessments and telephone warnings prior to the Omagh bomb had miraculously gone missing from the top drawer of a senior RUC officer at Omagh barracks when a request was made by investigators from Nuala O'Loans office to examine the record as part of their investigations into the August 4, warning.
Joe Byrne stated that 'at worst it is further confirmation of inadequate management practices within the police.' I would call on Joe Byrne to stop burying his head in the sand and wake up and smell the coffee!
