POSITIVE OUTCOME ON OMAGH IS IN THE INTERESTS OF ALL - REID
Positive outcome on Omagh is in the interests of all - Reid
COMMENTING on the publication of the Chief Constable's report on Thursday last, the Secretary of State, Dr John Reid MP said:
"The Chief Constable has now given his response to the Ombudsman's report. When the Ombudsman launched her report, I said I would be taking time to look at it, hear the views of the Chief Constable and views of the Policing Board. I also encouraged others to read it without rushing to judgement or playing politics with it.
"I know that the Policing Board will want to consider this police response very carefully and they will want to talk to both Sir Ronnie Flanagan and Nuala O'Loan on the way ahead.
RESOLUTION
"It is in the interests of the families and the wider community that there is a positive and constructive resolution of the issues and I look forward to hearing the outcome of the Board's deliberations.
"In her report, the Ombudsman begins by saying that nothing should detract from the guilt of the evil people who planted the bomb in Omagh on 15th August, 1998.
"We must never forget that these evil people are solely responsible for the death of 29 innocent people and two unborn children in Omagh on that tragic day."
