Two women who were seriously injured in the Omagh bomb were honoured for overcoming adversity. Donna-marie Marie McGillion and Claire Gallagher are now recognised to be among the bravest and most determined women in the country. The accolade was bestowed by Best magazine which was aiming to find 'women who made the world a better place'.
The publication of the Ombudsman's Report sent Shockwaves throughout the community of Omagh. Just hours before she was to disclose the already leaked document, Nuala O'Loan spent a morning with the families of those injured and killed in the bomb. She answered their questions and explained why her and her team believed that a major cover-up by police in particular Special Branch had resulted in the atrocity not being properly investigated. She was particularly damning of top chiefs in the Police Service for NI saying their judgment was flawed.
In the wake of the disturbing revelations contained in the leakage of the Police Ombudsman's controversial report, the news that �1.5m was to be allocated for the development of an important new Trauma Centre in Omagh was broadly welcomed. Omagh is to be the base for a new Northern Ireland Centre for Trauma and Transformation. The body was established recently to ensure that the lessons from the work done in the aftermath of the 1998 atrocity is shared and mad available to all who have suffered.
