SINCE the controversy first raised its head about the Ombudsman's probe into the Omagh bomb investigation, there has been a series of well planned media stunts to deflect the negative attention away from the chief officer of PSNI and Special Branch.
Before and after the launching of the report, Ronnie Flanagan and his supporters had begun a blame minimisation exercise. Nuala O'Loan's character was criticised implying that she was acting like an 'irrational woman'. However they underestimated her resolve and strength of character.
Below are some of the events throughout what was an eventful week.
8th December - leak of some of the contents of the Ombudsman Report into the investigation of the Omagh bomb
12th December - Nuala O'Loan releases a report which is heavily critical of Ronnie Flanagan and his senior officer in charge of crime.
12th December - Ronnie Flanagan says he would 'not only resign but commit suicide if report contents was true'
13th December- says he regrets 'emotional remark' and begins to use more rational language.
13th December - Ronnie Flanagan rejects contents of report as factually incorrect. Presents no hard evidence to prove what he says.
14th December - Calls for Ronnie Flanagan's resignation from families of those killed and injured in the bomb.
15th December - Former Secretary of State Peter Mandelson launches scathing attack on Ombudsman's Report says it lacks 'rigour and objectivity'.
16th December - Ronnie Flanagan to sue Nuala O'Loan over contents of report.
16th December - Ronnie Flanagan tells Omagh Victim Support group that he will meet with the families to give his side of the story.
18th December - Ronnie Flanagan and Nuala O'Loan meet over report.
19th December - Omagh families do not want to meet Flanagan without presence of O'Loan
