SUPPORT THE OMAGH BOMB RELATIVES' FIGHT FOR JUSTICE
Support the Omagh bomb relatives' fight for justice
The determination of the relatives of the Omagh Bomb Victims to obtain natural justice and adequate compensation for the trauma they've had to endure, impresses me immensely. I trust that far more people from the town, and further afield will support the fund to enable the legal Trust to bring the civil action to court. One million pounds, is a very large sum of money to raise and one would wish that the legal teams involved might be persuaded to make do with a more modest fee to allow this unique legal action to take place.
The commitment on the part of the RUC and Garda Siochana to bring the civil miscreants to court, equally impresses me and I would take issue with frustrated critics who have accused the authorities of incompetence in not preventing the bomb car reaching its destination in Market Street. The latest joint appeal for information to bring the bombers to justice will be welcomed by every right thinking member of the community.
Few have worked harder on the ground to bring solace to the suffering as a result of the dreadful bomb than Superintendent James Baxter and he is deserving of practical and indeed prayerful support in his efforts to obtain justice for the still grieving relatives, which as Mr Stanley McCombe rightly stated "is part and parcel of the healing process".
Many of the relatives have continued to make a public display of their grief within the Memorial Garden, while others have preferred to grieve in the privacy of their own homes. Rev Kevin Mullan I feel was right to observe that, until justice was seen to be done people could not move on and begin to care for one another. The efforts of the Victims Support Group, the Trauma Team, the local clergy and the medical profession to alleviate distress since the atrocity three years ago have of course been very praiseworthy indeed.
