TRUST ALWAYS MEANT TO CLOSE THE HOSPITAL CLAIMS MCLAUGHLIN
Trust always intended to close hospital claims McLaughlin
'The Sperrin Lakeland Trust and the Western Health and Social Services Board had the Tyrone County Hospital earmarked for closure long before the Omagh bomb atrocity, a local councillor claimed this week. In hard hitting statement, Independent Councillor Johnny McLaughlin, said that the days of both organisations are 'numbered' and that the public and public representatives have had 'enough of them'.
"The root cause of the jeopardy we are all now experiencing, and the staff of the hospital in particular, as well as the constant chipping away at our hospital services, by the Sperrin Lakeland Trust and the WHSSB, who I firmly believe had the County earmarked for closure long before the fatal bomb in August 98," he said.
Paying tribute to hospital staff and Nurses, Cllr McLaughlin described them as the 'true public face of this very public campaign' and said that they deserve the total and unconditional support of everyone.
"The recent hospital demonstration marked a magnificent beginning of the 'coming together' of the people in a renewed campaign to preserve our essential hospital services, come what may.
"The fortitude and determination displayed on that day, and often times before, by the Nurses and staff of the Tyrone County Hospital singled them out as the best figureheads to spearhead the fight and drive it home to Stormont," said Mr McLaughlin.
"Their future is our future and therefore the importance of taking to the streets in our thousands could never be over stated, and camp there if necessary until this Minister takes note," he added.
Cllr McLaughlin also stressed that the Hayes Review will be tackled head on by the newly appointed steering group established by Omagh District Council. The broad experience accumulated in the grouping will ensure an effective and hard hitting response to what, he said, is a disgracefully flawed and deliberately inaccurate waste of tax payers money.
"What is vitally important is that we all work hand-in-hand, condensing all our efforts to achieve an informed and overwhelming presentation that cannot be ignored.
"Finally, by utilising the power of media exposure to the maximum in presenting an image of complete solidarity and determination to follow this campaign through, whatever the bureaucratic obstacles, we can and we will win," said Mr McLaughlin.
