Omagh woman admitted making hoax bomb calls
Defendant is released on bail
A 44 YEAR old Omagh woman has admitted her part in a series of hoax bomb calls which paralysed the town last year.
At Omagh Crown Court this week, Pamela Jane Saulters, 8 Crevenagh View, admitted making two hoax bomb calls in May.
Counsel for the DPP, Charlie McCay, said that the Samaritans received a call at 6.43 pm on the 27 May, when the caller said: 'Hello, there's a bomb in the town'. Police checked the town but found nothing.
A second call was received by the Samaritans at 8 pm. This time it was from a male who said: There's a bomb in Charlies'. Police responded again by carrying out a search in McAleer's public house in Campsie, Omagh but again nothing was found.
However, police did learn that the accused had been barred from Charlie McAleer's because of her behaviour.
Some time later a further 999 call from the mobile phone of Pamela Saulters was received by police. The caller made a complaint about her boyfriend. Police went to her home and found her drunk. She did not want to press charges at that stage.
Later on the police received a further call saying that her boyfriend had stolen her microwave.
It was only when these phone calls were made about her boyfriend that police realised that the hoax bomb calls also came from Pamela Saulters' number.
She was intereviewed and admitted making the call about her boyfriend but denied about the hoax bomb calls.
DPP Council, Mr McCay added: "The town was not evacuated at the time that the accused made the call, but having sat here over the years, I know the disturbance that that call would have caused for the local police and the difficulty and upset to the people of the town and especially for the people of McAleers pub which is adjacent to the bomb site"
Saulters was represented by Brian McCartney instructed by Adrian O'Kane of Pat Fahy solicitors.
Defence Counsel asked that a pre-sentencing report be prepared on his client to which Judge Jeffrey Foote agreed.
Following the hearing, Saulters was released on bail.
