Teenager is charged with unlawful killing
POLICE have charged a teenage schoolgirl in connection with a drowning tragedy in which two former Omagh people lost their lives last year.
The 14-year-old girl - who cannot be named for legal reasons - is accused of unlawfully killing Colin Kitchener (14), of Daneshill Road, Coleraine, at Drumaheagles Marina in Ballymoney on 21st May, last year.
The schoolboy's body was recovered from the River Bann five hours after he drowned on a day out at the popular beauty spot.
Family friend, Charles McCausland (29), from Mossvale Park, Coleraine also drowned after jumping into the water in an attempt to save the boy.
Both had previously lived near each other at Lisanelly Heights in Omagh.
In the aftermath of the Omagh bombing, Mr McCausland was awarded a certificate of commendation from the RUC for helping victims caught up in the tragedy.
The accused is due to appear at a Preliminary Inquiry at Coleraine Juvenile Court on March 14th.
