'I'he rebuilding of the town's scarred Lower Market Street received a tremendous citation this week with a record $500,000 donation from the American Ireland Fund.

A simple wreath-laying ceremony marked the second anniversary of the Market Street atrocity which claimed the lives of 29 men, women and children and unborn twins. Hundreds attended the inter-denominational service.
Omagh District Councillor Francis Mackey and Colm Murphy - the only man charged in connection with the Omagh bomb - should be called as Inquest witnesses, victims' representative Michael Gallagher has urged.
SEPTEMBER
The Inquests into the deaths of 29 men, women and children caught up in the Market Street explosion have heard how telephone warnings were "totally inaccurate" and had not specified where the Real IRA bombers.
Families of six of the Omagh bomb dead are today bracing themselves for further agony as the inquests focus on the deaths of individual victims of the atrocity. Pathologist Dr Derek Carson will give evidence outlining the extend of those fatally injured in the blast.
The centre of Omagh was sealed off for almost three hours on Wednesday afternoon following the latest bomb scare. As the latest round of evidence into the 1998 bomb was being wound up for the day at nearby Omagh Leisure Centre, hoaxers forced the town to be cordoned off following a telephone warning. Around 40 bomb scares have been made since the Market Street atrocity over two years ago but the call this week was the first in several weeks.
As the Inquests into the victims of the Omagh bombing enters its final week, there have been pleas from 3 the families who lost three generations that no such act should never be contemplated again.
The Coroner at the Omagh bomb Inquests dramatically ruled that the human Rights Commission had no power to intervene at the proceedings. Coroner John Leckey ruled that the relatively new Commission which has been associated with some families of the bomb victims, had no statutory power to intervene at the Inquests.
OCTOBER
Families of the victims of the Omagh bomb announce that they intend to launch private prosecutions against for men suspected of bombing Omagh. The four men had been named by a BBC documentary 'who bombed Omagh'. Later, the Daily Mail announced that it was backing the private prosecutions.
Three met arrested in Omagh were questioned by Gardai in connection with the Omagh bomb. Gardai held the men for an extended period of questioning. The arrests followed closely on the heels of a BBC documentary about the massacre.
Council colleagues and families of the victims of the Omagh bomb condemned Councillor Francie Mackey's attendance at the funeral of Real IRA man Joseph O'Conor, in Belfast Mr Mackey said he and the deceased shared similar ideological views.
NOVEMBER
Secretary of State Peter Mandelson was said to have cried openly as he met with the families of people killed in the Omagh bomb. He vowed to support the victims but could not officially back their plans to bring private prosecutions against those believed to be responsible for the blast.
Two Dundalk men arrested by the Gardai investigating the Omagh bombing.were charged with membership of an illegal organisation. They were Liam Campbell and Vincent McKevitt both from Dundalk. A third man, Sean O'Donogh, who appeared on explosives charges the week before was granted bail at Dublin's Special Criminal Court.
Bill Clinton's third visit to Ireland is announced. The President and his wife, Hilary, now New York Senator, last visited Northern Ireland shortly after the Omagh bombing. Speculation was rife that he would make a visit to Omagh this time also.
