Act of kindness reaps rewards for Omagh Fund

AN act of kindness six years ago, when a Ballygawley man chanced upon two ladies whose car had broken down has reaped rewards for Omagh Fund.
As luck would have it this man owned a garage and was able to come to the aid of the ladies, Anna Smith from Rathfarnham, Dublin and her sister from Co. Louth.
Mr Patterson from the Old Omagh Road in Ballygawley took Anna and her sister home to his wife Ann while he repaired their car. After that night the Pattersons received a letter thanking them along with a small gift and that was the last time they heard from Anna until just before Christmas past.
After the tragedy of August feelings of disgust and revulsion echoed throughout the world. Feelings of disbelief were not just confined to Omagh, they spread across the whole of Ireland. it was such feeling that spurred Anna Smith to contract the Pattersons once more.
Horrified by what she saw Anna, like many felt the need to speak out to tell those she knew she was thinking of them. In a letter Mrs Paterson received before christmas Mrs Smith wrote of her feelings of "horror and total revulsion" regarding what had occurred in Omagh.
However Mrs Smith not only offered her prayers and regards, in the letter Mrs Patterson found a cheque for �200, "I ask you to pass on the enclosed cheque to one of two organisations involved in trying to rebuild and restore the town to its people."
Mrs Patterson contacted the Ulster Hearld, asking us to pass on Mrs Smith's donation to the fund saying " It just shows the kindness feeling and appreciation of some."
