OMAGH SWITCHES ON TO DANIEL
Omagh switches on to Daniel
Daniel O'Donnell heads a star-studded line-up when he switches on the Christmas Lights in Omagh tonight (Thursday). The switch-on, which commences a month-long series of Christmas festivities, is expected to draw thousands of people to the town.
The events begin at 6.30 p.m. with the "Voices of Peace" Choir, which combines children from four choirs from North and South, Catholic and Protestant, with the Irish Philharmonic Chorus presenting an uplifting arrangement of the old Irish hymn, "Deus Meus". This will be followed by a pastoral message, and at 6.45 p.m., Dolores and Sean Keane take to the stage, and they will give an advance performance of their new single, "Like The First Time It's Christmas Time". All proceeds from the sale of this single are being donated to the Omagh Fund.
The Omagh Community Youth Choir will then be performing the title track from the "Across the Bridge of Hope" compilation album, which features top Irish artistes such as U2, Sinead O'Connor, Boyzone and The Corrs.
The song itself is based on a touching poem written by 12 year old Sean McLaughlin, from Buncrana, who lost his life in the Omagh bomb. This Cross Community Choir brings together the brightest musical talent from seven schools in the Omagh area for an emotive and uplifting performance.
At 7.10 p.m., Santa arrives with backing music from The Chevy's.
There then follows a Laser Extravaganza. This Laser Light Extravaganza is a sensational light show set to music, with a dazzling array of festive images and animations. The Laser Show will form the backdrop to the entire evening's musical entertainment.
The Switch-On of Lights by Daniel O'Donnell is scheduled to take place at 7.40 p.m.
Following the arrival of Santa, Daniel O'Donnell will take to the stage to switch on the lights, and he is expected to perform a string of his top hits.
The evening concludes with music by Rock Stewart.
